A pesquisa pretende analisar, com o auxílio de um instrumental das Ciências da Complexidade, como a Ciência constrói novas representações do universo através das imagens científicas. Esta análise centrar-se-á nos mecanismos de inserção da imagem no processo de produção do conhecimento científico. O desenvolvimento do trabalho dar-se-á tendo em vista dois níveis hierárquicos: o do agente, cujo papel é representado pelo cientista; e o do meta-agente, um nível hierarquicamente superior ou o nível social, onde se pode melhor compreender a função das imagens na complexa relação entre estes agentes que cooperam na construção de modelos que possam representar objetivamente a natureza.

The research intends an analysis, with the instrumentation of Complexity Science, on how Science finds new representations of the universe through images. In this analysis the core of reflections will lay upon the insertion of image in the scientific production. The research will be developed over two main identified hierarchical levels: the agent level, whose role is played by the scientist; and meta-agent level, an upper hierarchical level or the social level, where the function of the scientific images and the complex relations between agents that cooperate together on construction of models that represent objectively the nature.
