Post-Graduate Studies in Portuguese Language


The Program of Post-Graduate Studies in Portuguese Language at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP) aims at improving the scientific qualification in the field of Portuguese Language and the preparation of teachers and researches at Masters and PhD level.

The objectives of the Program are:

• Promotion of the scientific production of teachers and students so that, in a critical and transformative way of reality, according to the research lines of the Program, they direct their linguistic studies towards the organization of texts and discourses in different contexts and social practices.
• Maintenance of contacts and partnership with national and foreign research centers, whose object of study is the Portuguese Languages

Presentation

Created in 1974, the Postgraduate Program in Portuguese Language (PPG-LPO) was already born with the clear objective of building adequate conditions to expand the degree of qualification and development of skills in the field of scientific investigations relevant to studies in its area of ​​expertise. With origins in the former Center for Linguistic Research "Sedes Sapentiae" for Portuguese Studies (CEN-PES, current IP-PUC), it inherited the function of discussing different perspectives of investigation and analysis of the linguistic phenomenon in the social space in which the language practices in their relationship with history, teaching and the multiple dimensions of discourse.

In order to promote academic training, scientific practice of excellence, responsibility for the theoretical, technical and critical development of students and always in acordance with ethics, respect for diversity and the promotion of equality and justice, the PPG-LPO has as its general objectives:

  1. empower personnel at the academic master's and doctorate levels, to work in research and teaching at the basic, secondary, and higher education levels; train personnel at the academic master's and doctoral level to work in research and teaching in elementary, secondary and higher education;
  2. develop and intensify research activities aimed at reinterpreting didactic proposals in the field of linguistic sciences and their Technologies for production, expansion and dissemination of new knowledge;
  3. confer, according to the respective didactic regime, the titles of Master or Doctor in Portuguese;
  4. encourage and intensify the development of postdoctoral projects;
  5. maintain academic-scientific relationships with similar programs offered by Brazilian and foreign higher education institutions;
  6. engage in the extension of teaching and research activities in the national and international context to contribute to the scientific, cultural, economic, and social development of the country and of humanity.

With the general purposes defined, the PPG-LPO anchors its performance in five specific objectives:

  1. create conditions for scientific improvement in the area of Portuguese Language, with a view to training teachers and researchers in the historical/historiographic, descriptive, textual and discursive areas, contemplated in the Research Lines; 
  2. encourage the development of research projects in the area of Portuguese language to favor and intensify critical-creative work in the descriptive, textual and discursive field, extended to teaching;
  3. III. disseminate the teaching and student production, according to the research priorities established by the Program;

  5. integrate the Program in the dynamics of the University to mark its critical and transforming presence of the Brazilian reality;
  6. maintain contact and collaborate with national and foreign research centers working in the Portuguese language, mainly with member countries of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries.

In the constant process of reflection and remodeling, the purpose is to encourage the scientific production of teachers and students so that, in a critical and transformative way, according to the research lines of the Program, they direct their linguistic studies to a more in-depth view of the constitution of the Portuguese language, projected in the dimensions of descriptive, textual and discursive analysis in different historical and social contexts.
