Presentation Starting a research in Statistics Education in Latin America is a difficult task. Despite the increasing number of researchers in this field, the fact is that research groups are still far away and we have few opportunities to contact them or to identify suitable problems to start a relevant work in this area. New researchers often have to face a pioneer work in our own institutions or countries and many times need to travel abroad to start a research. Language is an added obstacle for Latin American young researchers since most existing working groups in Statistics Education use English or French as communication language. The aim of this forum is to facilitate communication among people with the same interests and to create links that serve to reinforce our work and progressively develop a Latin American Statistics Education Research Group. A permanent Internet Forum (a virtual community) and a discussion panel during ICOTS 7, will be organised in Portuguese and Spanish to help reaching this aim. Possible themes include: discussing our research lines, informing about innovative material used by some of us, exchanging bibliography, contacting people working in a similar problem, discussing results from our current work, as well as the difficulties we are facing. We hope the dialogue and exchange with other colleagues doing research in Statistics Education will help us growing as researchers. We plan this forum to continue after ICOTS to provide a permanent space of discussion. The ICOTS-7 organizers are offering the possibility that we meet face to face in Salvador in order to reinforce the connections in the group, clarify lines of research and define future strategies. People interested in this forum are welcome to contact Cileda Coutinho (cileda@pucsp.br) or Blanca Ruiz (bruiz@itesm.mx). Português -
