Structuralized and inform spaces

images/diagra4.jpg">

The concentration of global activities engenders internationalized spaces in the heart of the metropolises, inserted in vast multinationals networks with special geographic and institutional linkages. This mechanics would produce a deep urban reorganization of these cities. Large reurbanization projects of declining areas are developed, for new corporate or residential uses, causing a large-scale reconfiguration of the urban space. A process that intensifies the discontinuities: disparity between locations, coexistence of empty spaces and extreme density.

The proposal is to observe how, parallel to the rigidly structuralized and programmed redevelopment projects, inform territories appear, with new space and social configurations. The zone, dominated by indetermination, is occupied by mutant and nomadic elements, capable to produce new linkages and unexpected events that completely escape to the plan and the structuring processes. These intervals are slow spaces (the railroad patios, parking lots, deposits) that introduce differentials of time in the organization and perception of the urban territory. They are informal spaces (of peddlers and homeless populations, slum quarters and tenement houses) that continuously drain, occupying the adjacent areas. They are also fluid territories (around the large expressways and subway lines, turned to those that pass in speed) that allow the articulation between near and far, re-dimensioning our notions of scale and distance.
